Diriyah VR Experience

Challenge

Developing a virtual reality experience that presents historic Diriyah as an explorable heritage environment, while preserving architectural scale, mudbrick and stone materials, courtyards, pathways, and spatial comfort inside VR.

Objective

To create a VR experience that allows users to walk through a Diriyah-inspired environment, explore Najdi architectural elements, and experience the place from a first-person perspective with controller or virtual-hand interaction.

PG Studios Solution

Diriyah VR Experience was created as an immersive exploration experience that places users inside heritage spaces featuring mudbrick facades, stone pathways, arches, courtyards, and architectural details connected to Diriyah’s identity. The experience uses a first-person VR perspective with visible controllers and virtual hands, helping users feel present in the environment and making movement between architectural points clear and natural.

Production Approach

  • Visual and architectural identity analysis for historic Diriyah.
  • 3D heritage environment design and scene construction.
  • Mudbrick, stone, floor, and architectural material development.
  • Comfortable VR navigation path planning.
  • Controller and virtual-hand presence development.
  • Lighting and atmosphere setup to support the sense of place.
  • Performance optimization for smooth VR playback.
  • Preparation of the experience for exhibitions and presentation use.

Results & Impact

  • The project resulted in an immersive heritage VR experience that presents Diriyah as a place users can explore from within. The experience also provides a scalable foundation for information hotspots, audio narration, guided routes, and additional heritage areas.
