AlUla VR Experience
Challenge
Developing an introductory virtual reality experience for AlUla that balances tourism and culture, presents three distinct destinations comfortably for new VR users, and avoids becoming a static video or information-heavy tour.
Objective
Create an immersive exploration experience combining Maraya, Elephant Rock, and Sharaan Nature Reserve, giving users a sense of presence through 360-degree viewing, concise information points, and simple movement between environments.
PG Studios Solution
AlUla VR Experience was created as a virtual reality showcase of AlUla’s beauty and landmarks. Users visit three main environments: the architecture and reflections of Maraya, the geological scale of Elephant Rock, and the nature and wildlife of Sharaan Nature Reserve. The experience combines spatial presence, natural lighting, 3D models, concise information points, and comfortable navigation.
Production Approach
- VR experience concept and user journey development.
- Selection of the key destinations and their role in the experience.
- 3D environment design for Maraya, Elephant Rock, and Sharaan Nature Reserve.
- Simple navigation suitable for new VR users.
- Concise information points supporting tourism and education.
- Lighting, material, and sound design to strengthen presence.
- User comfort, text clarity, and VR performance testing.
Results & Impact
- The project produced an immersive cultural tourism experience suitable for exhibitions, schools, presentations, or as a virtual introduction before visiting AlUla. Its design can expand with new destinations, information routes, and interactive elements.
